A ship of 5000 tonnes displacement is 120m long and floats upright on an even keel. When a mass of 40 tonnes, already on board, is shifted 25m forward horizontally, it causes the trim to change by 0.1m. Find the longitudinal metacentric height.

Solution:
GG1
= 40*25/5000 = 0.2 m
GML /GG1 = L/t
=> GML/0.2 = 120/0.1
=> GML = 240 m
